Greybox Workflow
Build a layout-first foundation using a top-down diagram → layout file → greybox.
Greyboxes are helpful for planning layouts, but you don’t need them for every project.
When to use a greybox
Use greyboxes when you are:
- Designing a playable level or complex environment
- Planning navigation, combat, or puzzle spaces
- Handing work off to a team that needs a clear layout
Skip greyboxes when you are:
- Prototyping something small/simple
- Exploring mood, lighting, or camera angles
- Creating quick visuals for pitches/reviews
Greyboxing is a two-step process
Step 1 — Create a digital layout file
You have two options:
A) From an existing top-down image Import a PNG/JPG of a top‑down layout (sketch, floorplan, Miro diagram), then prompt:
Create a layout diagram from @layout-photo.pngB) Draw it in WorldEngen Use the built‑in drawing tool to sketch the layout.
Step 2 — Generate the greybox
Once you have a layout file, prompt:
Create a greybox from the layout fileNext steps
After the greybox exists, move into:
- Concept Art → Image Kits → 3D Models
- then Build and Edit Your Scene to replace primitives with assets
